From February 12th to 16th, 2016, Professor Li Jiazeng, Executive Director of Research Center for Macao Social and Economic Development, went to Seoul, Korea, to attend International Leadership Conference (ILC). ILC was organized by Universal Peace Federation (UPF) which was an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (UN). Prof. Li delivered a speech on the conference and participated in the Peace Road 2016 Launching.
The theme of ILC was “Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: The Role of Governments, Civil Society and Faith-Based Organizations.” ILC, an active supporter of the UN initiative, addressed the challenges of our time, such as dealing with climate change, defeating extremism and terrorism, maintaining world peace. Prof. Li submitted paper, entitled “Cultural Identity and Multi-culture Constructing Are the Effective Ways to Overcome Extremism”, based on the issue. After reviewing, ILC accepted this paper and sent an invitation to Prof. Li. The invitation says “The organizer has accepted your opinion on the fourth issue. Please express your unique presentation on the creation of Multiculturalism. Your participation will make this conference a complete success.”
During ILC, Prof. Li met with Dr. Thomas Walsh, the president of UPF International, Mr. Tuo-Huan Chen, the president of UPF-Taiwan, and other scholars. He introduced the experience of social harmony and stability in Macao to many scholars from different countries. In addition, Prof. Li was elected to be the representative of Greater China and participated in the Peace Road 2016 Launching, which held in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). He signed the Peace Road flag and released white doves. Afterwards, he also participated in a bicycle ride to support the Peace Road 2016.
